In collaboration with artist Rebecca Green I am exploring images from my family archive relating to gardening and growing and childhood memories of my grandparents gardens and love of growing plants. Using encaustic techniques Rebecca has guided me through new ways of combining ephemeral imagery with found objects, to convey nostalgia and memory. The work was partly inspired by an article from the Express & Star in the 1950s which featured my grandma tending her garden as part of an article about residents of Fairview Road in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton. It also been informed by research into allotment history and people’s stories about gardening memories that I have been undertaking as part of the Boundary Way Project.
Growing memories collaged objects presented at Boundary Way as part of the Sense of Place exhibition October 2018
